Harold Godwinson

c. 1022–1066

Harold, Earl of Wessex, was crowned king of England in January 1066. That autumn he marched north, met Harald Hardrada’s invasion, and then force-marched south to face William of Normandy. He died in the fighting near Hastings. The Bayeux Tapestry, a later Norman embroidery, is the famous picture of that campaign.
