Tokugawa Ieyasu
1543–1616
Ieyasu was Nobunaga’s ally and, after Hideyoshi’s death, the leading eastern daimyo. At Sekigahara in 1600 his coalition met the western lords who claimed to defend the Toyotomi heir. The shogunate he founded in 1603 lasted until the nineteenth century.
