Khalid ibn al-Walid

died 642

Khalid ibn al-Walid was an early Muslim commander who fought first against Muhammad’s community and then for it. He led cavalry in the campaigns that took Syria from the eastern Roman Empire. Muslim tradition attaches his name especially to the long action in the Yarmuk valley.
