Ramesses II

reigned c. 1279–1213 BCE

Ramesses II was a king of Egypt’s Nineteenth Dynasty who campaigned in the Levant and Nubia. At Kadesh on the Orontes his army met the Hittites in a chariot action that both courts described in their own monuments. The later treaty between Egypt and Hatti is one of the oldest surviving peace agreements.
