Scipio Africanus

236–183 BCE

Publius Cornelius Scipio took command of the Roman war in Spain while still young, then carried the fighting to North Africa so that Carthage would recall Hannibal from Italy. Roman writers credit him with training a legion that could answer Hannibal’s cavalry and with the African campaign that ended at Zama.
