John III Sobieski
1629–1696
John Sobieski was king of Poland and grand duke of Lithuania, and a commander against the Ottoman Empire. In 1683 he led the Polish contingent of the army that marched to relieve Vienna. The cavalry charge from the Kahlenberg is the episode attached to his name.
