Napoleon Bonaparte

1769–1821

Napoleon rose from an artillery officer of the Revolution to emperor of the French. He made his reputation with rapid marches and concentrated artillery, and he commanded in person at Austerlitz, in the Russian campaign that passed through Borodino, and at Waterloo after the return from Elba. He died in exile on St Helena.
